Carriage House provides a safe, supporting community for the homeless and working poor. We are committed to addressing their immediate survival needs and to providing services that lead to personal stability, healing and employment. In 2007, we served over 2100 people and helped over 100 find jobs. Our services are divided into Basic Needs, Employment Assistance and Healing:

Basic Needs

  • Lunch 5 days a week and dinner 4 nights a week
  • Emergency Warming Center, overnight shelter when it is either below 10° or when it is snowing and it is below 20°.
  • Special women’s program with the YWCA
  • Money for medical prescriptions
  • Eye examinations and eyeglasses
  • Securing ID’s for jobs and social services
  • Showers, clothing and personal grooming
  • Referrals and advocacy to Boulder Shelter, Boulder Veteran’s Center, the Boulder County AIDS Project, the Center for People with Disabilities, the Domestic Violence Shelter, and Emergency Family Assistance (EFAA).

Employment Assistance

  • Resume preparation
  • Job search listings
  • Individual voice mail and Internet access
  • Clothing vouchers and bus tokens for job interviews
  • In-house intern program
  • Computer tutoring.

Healing Services

  • Addiction counseling
  • Referrals and advocacy to the Mental Health Center and their Chinook House, and to the People’s Clinic.
  • Acupuncture
  • Art workshops.

But if you asked the people we serve what they value most about Carriage House, many would say that we give them to courage to dream again of a better life. It is hard to dream when you are tired, hungry or just so very discouraged by the struggles you face. It is easy to give in to despair and hopelessness when faced by obstacles at every turn and treated every day as if you had some sort of contagious disease. We give them a warm place where they are free to dream and the assistance they need to turn those dreams into a better reality for themselves and for our community.
